SME Questionnaire: Single Digital Gateway

The results of this questionnaire will be assessed by the European Commission to improve the functioning of the Single Digital Gateway and help deliver its full potential, especially to ensure that SMEs can leverage the single market to its full extent.

This questionnaire is addressed to SMEs who conduct, or consider conducting, cross-border activities within the EU. It seeks to assess the extent to which SMEs are aware of the services provided by the SDG and finds those services useful as well as to understand their expectations with respect to the SDG. It should not take more than 10 minutes to complete.

The Single Digital Gateway (SDG) is one of the most ambitious EU eGovernment initiatives to digitalise public administration, which is key to enhance the EU’s competitiveness and achieve a level-playing field in the Single Market.

Through the Your Europe web portal, the SDG is setting up a cross-sectoral one-stop shop that provides businesses and citizens with:

  • Reliable and up-to-date information about rules and procedures in the Single Market, at all levels of government;
  • Direct, centralised, and guided access to assistance and problem-solving services;
  • Direct access to a wide range of fully digitised administrative procedures, for which the Once-Only Technical System (OOTS) allows an automated exchange of evidence between authorities across the EU (e.g., as a business you should only provide the same information once to public authorities);
  • Feedback tools to report on the quality of services and single market obstacles.

The SDG aims to improve the European business environment by cutting red tape and helping companies, notably SMEs, to better understand and use their rights and the opportunities offered by the Single Market.

The SDG regulation entered into force in 2018 and is gradually being implemented.

The closing date for responses is the 16th of February 2024.
